I felt so inept that I couldn’t help my child. Throughout the course of this [PLAY Project], I learned that I can help my child. I am actually the best person to help my child. Not only can I be the best person to help him. Through that, I’ve learned to be an advocate for other children and other parents to say, “You can do this. I did this. You can do this. If you don’t feel something is right, don’t feel like you have to go along with it because it’s what the medical community says and what books say. There can be other options and other ways to go about it.

For me, that was huge because having gone through a diagnosis with one son and then another, I was in a very bad place for a while, feeling like, how am I going to parent these kids that need so much support?. I didn’t know I could give that. What the PLAY Project did for me is teach me that I can give that and continue to give that the rest of their lives… I feel like the PLAY Project gave me the foundation to learn that. I can give a clear example of my two children – one who got early intervention and one did not. There’s a clear distinction. I very much firmly believe the PLAY Project helped my youngest get to where he is now.
